Research Statement

Electricity is the lifeblood of our society, and providing a reliable and efficient electricity supply is key to ensuring its welfare and sustainable economic growth. This is the grand driving force behind the research program that I have built at Illinois. The timing is perfectly aligned with the ongoing transformation of the electricity infrastructure, which is driven by the integration of new technologies; these include renewable-based generation, advanced controls, and distributed energy resources.

The ultimate goal of my research program is to address the problems that the integration of the aforementioned technologies pose in the design and operation of electrical energy systems. The complexity of these problems requires multidisciplinary solutions; as such, my research lies at the intersection of several fields, namely, power and energy systems, control, and reliability; and it involves numerous collaborators across all these disciplines.

My research program is currently structured around the areas listed below.
